I’m sure you’ve heard the hype around engagement sessions. You’re probably wondering if it’s even something you should consider doing. Friends have giving you their opinion, some say that you should absolutely have them done, but others argue it’s just a waste of time. Maybe your babe is awkward and shy in front of a camera and will probably be too much of an uncomfortable experience, which defeats the purpose of it, right?
I’m sure some of these thoughts and questions have pass through your mind, and I don’t blame you. But let me tell you why engagement sessions are incredible!!

Reason #1: To c-e-l-e-b-r-a-t-e!
You guys said YES! Yes, to a life together, yes to getting married and yes to love.
Starting your wedding planning journey by choosing to have an engagement photo session is an easy YES, and one that you’ll never regret. Let’s start by pointing out how great of an opportunity it is to take time with your babe before all the craziness kicks in, to just celebrate and have fun together without any pressure.
Engagement photos are a celebration. That’s right! It’s a celebration of your love and union of two individuals coming together as one unit. It’s also a major milestone in your life.
You’ll feel all those jitters of the anticipation and feel the joy of the commitment you’re both making to one another during the session. It’s meant to put you in the present and remind you what’s about to happen!

Reason #2 Adventure with your favorite adventure buddy!
It’s an experience we’ll craft for you two. We talk about what was your first date like, what do you like doing as a couple, and then we’ll come up with a very fun and unique adventure that will make the entire experience unforgettable.
Whatever adventure means to you. Having engagement photos is an opportunity for you and your favorite human to pick whatever adventure you feel like doing to celebrate together. We are very lucky to have the luxury of choosing any of the 4 seasons you like the most because we live in the incredible Pennsylvania. We can drive to the mountains, either Seven Springs or Ohio Pyle and be surrounded by nature in your favorite season. If you rather go to the famous and very interesting Strip District and stop at your favorite bar, we’ll do that, too! Do you want to split up the session by having your doggie join us? Let’s do it! Maybe you want to lay down a blanket and have a glass of wine your favorite coffee by a bump fire in the winter, we can do it! You want to pop a bottle of Champagne on the top of a mountain and just laugh and have the best time together? Anything you guys want and are into is what we’ll talk about so we craft an incredible experience where time is not an issue and we really do what you both desire.
In simple terms, think of it this way, I’ll be third wheeling and gushing over how cute you are, while I direct you and tell you occasionally what to do so we can get the most romantic shots you never knew you wanted!!

Reason #3 Ease those nerves!
Some people get nervous in front of the camera, you are not alone. Do you want all those nerves to be at their highest when you are also just about to say your vows? Having an engagement session gives you the opportunity to get used to being in front of the camera. It allows you the time to feel those nerves and then slowly begin to relax and ease into it. All when there’s no pressure and no expectations and you’re not the center of attention.

Reason #4 Get comfortable with your photographer!
An opportunity to get to know each other. You’ll see I don’t bite! It’s the first time we work together, and we get the opportunity to get to know each other, you lose the fear of my camera. If there’s something I can promise you, besides the fact that you’ll fall in love with your photos, is that you’ll have a blast!!
Remember, your photographer is the person that will be with you in the most intimate parts of your day, and the one who will be with you the longest, so establishing that trust and comfort is detrimental because you’ll trust me, and let me in, which in turn will result on those intimate, romantic photos I’m known for.
Engagement sessions also give me a chance to figure out what works best for you. Are you guys more subtle and quiet? Or are you usually laughing and joking? What style is going to get your best and truest side as a couple are all things that will help me give you the best experience and beautiful photos!

Reason #5 Get used to seeing yourself in pictures!
You’ll fall in love with how good you look in your photos. It’s an out-of-body experience to look at yourselves as two people who fell in love and are having there happy ever after! In a few years you’ll look back at these photos and say, “GOSH!! Remember that??!”
After you get your engagement photos, I encourage you to take time to look at how much your love shines, how beautiful your connection is and what a stunning human your partner believes you to be.
You’ll feel so much more confident on your wedding day—all the fears and nervousness will have faded away after you see how amazing you guys look in your engagement photos.

Reason #6 Play, have fun, see what works for you!
Having engagement photos helps you figure what works for you. It allows you to figure out what you do and don’t like, resulting in more photos that you love at the wedding.
It allows you to play with different directions, explore ways of being together and this all gives you the confidence to relax and go with the flow as your wedding day is being documented.
I can’t tell you how many times couples are from being completely camera shy, and unsure of my camera turned the complete opposite and are so excited to see me at their wedding. The level of trust and willingness to do whatever I’m asking them to do is at it’s all time high, because they saw how incredible their engagement photos are and what a good experience they had.
The experience is such a big one for me, because if you’re having an incredible experience, you will have that emotional connection to your photos. If you had a really bad time, but have “good” photos, it won’t mean the same, because those photos remind you of the experience, which is why I focus so much on building that relationship with my couples.

Reason #7 Save the date and wedding website pics!
This one isn’t for everybody but if you are going down the save the date card and wedding website route (not all couples do and that’s totally cool!) engagement sessions can get you the type of beautiful photos that you’ll feel stoked using for these cards and webpage.
Sometimes these photos are also a great idea for when you are decorating the venue and you want to show some of your photos as part of your love journey! I always get so excited to see my couple’s engagement photos throughout their venue.

Reason #8 Gorgeous photos … that aren’t in your wedding clothes!
Engagement photos are a chance to get some rad photos of yourselves that aren’t all in your wedding attire …or just a selfie! Having gorgeous photos in your wedding clothes is obviously wonderful but having some photos outside of that is meaningful too.
Photos of you guys having an adventure and doing something you love, being cute together and just hanging out in a more relaxed and intimate setting with just your photographing third wheeling is all you’ll need.
The next time we meet, we’ll have the bridal party with us, your family and friends and it’s party time! Even though, I will still steal you for sunset photos so you can have a moment for yourselves and those photos you will have forever!

An engagement session can be an opportunity to revisit a location that has meaning to the two of you. Your first hike together, first date, first kiss, that coffee shop you absolutely love, or those streets you’ve walked a thousand times while talking about life. Or that bar you like to stop by on Friday afternoons to catch up with friends during happy hour. Or how about that spot where the proposal happened?!
Or do you want to use a location that you love, that has epic views, or you’ve always wanted to visit, but for accessibility or timing reasons you can’t use it on your wedding day. Cool!! Let’s do it!
Or maybe you want to use the session as a scouting mission for new locations for a first look or ceremony site you’re unsure of for your wedding day and want to see if it’ll be a good idea.
